"SALUTE" the Masters Comp, ANZAC Day 25th April 2009. Galston Park Skatepark, Galston Park, Sydney, NSW
"SALUTE" the Masters Comp on Anzac Day was a tribute to the older riders within skateboarding and honored those skateboarders no longer with us. It is important that as a culture we spend some time looking back and remembering those who came before us that created the fantastic lifestyle we all benefit from today.
The EVENT RULE was: Have fun! Everything about this event was tailored toward everyone who was there having as fun
a day as possible.
Some of the days highlights included; the barely out of diapers Scott Spring taking on the seasoned veterans of the Over 40s division and showing them there is a new kid in town, Danny Van channeling Jay Smith for The Best Layback award, Zinger and Adam Luxford pushing each other for The Longest Grind, the competition for Longest Boardslide was seen by many as truly inspirational for the younger generations in attendance because it was fought out by two riders over 45; Adrian Jones and John Gray, a lot of the older competitors had their hearts warmed by the new generation coming through in the Over 30s division (it is good to see some young kids giving it a go and keeping the spirit alive), the high spirited inter-club competition of Skate Trivia proved both challenging and memorable for all in attendance with both local and international skateboard trivia covering magazines, riders, companies and music and everyone was stoked that Adrian “Errol” Jones was finally acknowledged for his place in Australian skateboarding history with the LIVING LEGEND award.
The after party and Awards Ceremony was at The Dural Hotel who provided us with our own private bar for the evening "The Blue Tile Lounge" as well as free accommodation for all who travelled to be part of the event.
This event would not have been possible without the support of; The Dural Hotel, VANS, Santa Cruz Skateboards, Concrete Wave Magazine, Mountain Dew, Old Man Army, Decent Hardware, Moonpies & Misfits Skateboard Shop, Hoon Wheels and Modus Bearings. This event was run by Sydney Old School and F Beat Productions.
